December 2007: Second Annual Holiday Open House
We are pleased so many of you were able to swing by for a sweet treat, fun product party favors, grab holiday gift ideas, and make donations in celebration of our second Annual Holiday Open House.

We launched our New Zerene Signature 'No Ka Oi' line of body products, as well as raffled off two fabulous gift baskets. First, our signature Zerene Basket including our new 'Na Ka Oi' products and a gift certificate for an indulgent manicure and pedicure, valued at $150 went to Nancy Schmell. Second, a medley of our favorite products from Pureology, Loma and Kiss Me, worth over $215 went to Patti Southard. Congrats to all the winners! Tickets were only $2 each and we were able to raise $370 for New Beginnings.

This year, your generous donations to New Beginnings made this event a huge success. Thank you for your continued support.

July 2007: Domestic violence seminar
We undertook this informative seminar, in the wake of the horrible tragedy that involved one of Sibyl's client, Rebecca Griego, who was gunned down by her ex-boyfriend at the University of Washington. Our goal was to learn the warning signs, understand the statistics of domestic abuse, and know what avenues we can take to help these women help themselves out of an abusive relationship. This class was taught by Cass Solis who has a BA in Women's Studies with and Emphasis in Social Services. She has spent 3 years working as a Domestic Violence Advocate for a local agency, along with running support groups, working on various crisis lines, and has assisted in transitional housing for women in need. We thank her for all her knowledge and time in helping us all to understand this ever growing problem. We at Zerene hope that by taking these educative steps, we may be able to make a difference.

June 2007: Pureology High Impact Workshop
Valerie, Sibyl, and Michelle attended this inspired, innovative and creative workshop that taught us dramatic cutting and styling techniques. Pureology's new "High impact" hair cut collection shows where form and function meet lift and style while complimenting distinct silhouettes. Using Pureology high performance products we were taught how to achieve the looks featured in this 2007 collection. Those featured cuts are Luxury lengths, the Nano bob, and Pure flirt. This class was taught by Tyson Daniel, finalist on Bravo's new show "Shear Genius" and was extremely inspiring.

April 2007: Malys Impact Hair Show
Valerie, Crystal and Jess attended this revolutionary all day hair show with classes by renowned artists such as Pureology's platform artist Phillip Wilson and Alterna's stylist to the stars, Sean Michael Corby. We were amazed at the current, state of the art techniques shown on stage. Everything from cutting very thick hair, to seeing the new High Impact Cut Collection achieved on stage, and being shown the one of a kind Bergdorf blow out for that luscious red carpet look! With so much valuable education, it was easily the best hair show we have been to in
ten years.

March 2007:
Annual Urban Unveiled Show
We were fortunate enough to have been chosen to represent our talents in the wedding industry by being a preferred artist at the 1st Annual Urban Unveiled Show in downtown Seattle. This unique boutique style wedding event showcased exceptionally talented vendors in an exquisite setting. This show was different as the vendors had been selected based on their excellent products and services and we are honored to have been chosen for our talents in the wedding industry. As you entered you felt as if you had been transported to the photographed gatherings you only see in Vogue or Vanity Fair magazines. The runway show by Luly Yang was mesmerizing. The cakes and sweets were to die for, and the place settings were breathtaking. It was a beautiful evening and was a wedding show like none other.

CUTEST PETS OF 2005:
"This is one of the many fantastic views I am blessed with every morning. I adopted my Flower dog two years ago from an owner who just didn't "want her" anymore. Can you imagine throwing away this sweet puppy? Thank goodness for her selfishness because now Flower is with me and has changed my life with love forever! The beauty of Flower is that she is the fighter, a licker, a healer of sadness, a smile inducer, with just a little streak of diabolical mayhem to keep the party lively! She is my world and I love her with all my heart!" — Valerie Zook

PAMPEREDPUPPY.COM:
This one was runner up on www.pamperedpuppy.com for their June photo contest. :)

No Traffic Signal, No Problem

By Christopher Frizzelle

It's the middle of spring in the middle of the day in the middle of Ballard, and five members of "Awesome" are in the middle of the street. Evan Mosher, the trumpet player, takes a seat on a chair that's been wheeled out of the hair salon Zerene.
